The homely ambience, fine dining and beverages, coupled with friendly staff catering for your every need. Located in the heart of old Tipperary, five minutes from Nenagh, Co. Tipperary in Ballycommon, the Thatched Cottage, Ballycommon is the ideal venue for a corporate lunch, a savoury afternoon break or a successful party.
It is located in a restored thatched building dating back to the 1800’s. The structure has been preserved and the outside stonework and other elements have been restored to its original state.
OUR HISTORY
The Thatched Cottage
The original building is a detached six-bay single-storey house, built c.1800 with half-hipped porch to front and lean-to extension to rear, and five-bay single and two-storey addition to form an L-plan. The thatched roof is half-hipped straw to original block, with rendered chimneystacks.
This building occupies an important site at the crossroads in Ballycommon Village. The squat, long appearance and the thatched roof are key features of cultural interest.
Today the traditional structure is being nurtured and enhanced by the proprietors Kathleen and Tony Donlan.
Full of yummy treats, sourdough loaves, gourmet sausage rolls and much more. Make sure you stop in to Tony’s Tipp Top Shop (just across the street from us) and give their new bakery a try! Delicious creative creations made fresh every day.
